57+ Premium And Free Image Gallery, Slideshow And Lightbox Solutions

Actually at first I wanted simple image gallery solution for web design project, but when I started to search I changed my mind and thought how great would be to create article about all the best image gallery solutions available on the Internet. So here it is – this list is separated in 3 big categories like Ajax, JavaScript and Lightbox based galleries, CSS based galleries and FLASH based galleries, so You can easy switch to category You got interest in. I think here You’ll find gallery for every needs, should be enough to choose from!

This article has been updated on May 16,2012 and we just created new roundup of 30 jquery image and slider plugins, which have been released just on 2012! Everything is super fresh, enjoy!

I wanted also to add comment about free and premium files – while I was searching for a lot of free quality codes, I still found several commercial solutions, which blew my mind away, but since I wasn’t there to spend any money I just went further to search for more free image galleries. But yes, while I recommend you mostly to use those free slideshows, sometimes for good paid freelance jobs you have it’s worth spending little money to really leave impact to your client..and in the meantime you’re saving time!

Well, I guess what I am suggesting is to always look how much time takes for you to modify, install, setup free solution..and if it takes too much, definitely look into cheap codes, cheap quality tools, where definitely you can spare 5-15$ to save your time, here is on of the best marketplace I am talking about and using myself on desperate occasions – CodeCanyon! Just thinking, enjoy your free slideshows now – I know here you’ll find huge quality as well, just be aware how well supported, upgraded each solution is, because if you’ll get old buggy code, you won’t be happy with it! Ok, now let’s get to the actual article! –

  1. RJ

Hi, any help is most appreciated. I’m creating a slide show for three links at the top of the page Eg:
    | |

and for every three links three slide shows are there. now my problem is that for Link 1 numbering as per the no of images in the slide show is coming but for Link2 and Link3 the numbering is not populating. I want to show the numbering at the bottom of the images as per the no of images in the slide show for every link. Like in the 39. jqGalScroll example but for all the three links and on click of Link2.. Link1 & Link3 vl not b visible.

  2. Adam Aitken

Thanks for the resources. I have used a few of these on different projects. Like that they are JS and not flash so compatible with smart phones!

  3. Jo

Thanks for intense research. I’d like to try them all.
But finally we took the galleria…;)

  4. Matthew Osmon

I am a high school art teacher. I am looking for a site like Wix where I can create an online gallery that looks great for my student’s work. The problem is I want the site to have a comment box for each piece of artwork in the gallery so I can have parents, teachers and community comment on my student’s work, I cannot seem to find a good looking site that is easy to use with comment boxes for the galleries. Can anyone help me? I do not have time to write code, I need an easy user friendly template sort of site. Thanks!!!

  5. Timothy

Hallo, i used one of the motools and it worked but when i try to make more than one copy of the same slideshow, they dont work, any solution.

    • Gabriel

      Hi Timothy,

I have been using the Image Scroller for a couple of weeks now, and since it has the Colorbox script integrated with the Flash it really helped me put my images to the net easier. When I used the Flash multiple times in the same page it also doubled my overlays. I managed to fix this problem just by adding the embedding code for the Colorbox javascript file.

  6. Visitor

Unfortunately, the link to the “PhatFusion Slideshow” doesn’t work anymore:
“The requested URL /slideshow/ was not found on this server.”

  7. rob

Thank you Gabriel, you saved my day.
Indeed, you can do a lot of things with that Live Demo, it’s very customizable, I LOVE IT

    • Gabriel

      Hi Rob,

I am glad that my comment helped you!
I really was impressed with their products and thought I ca’t not share them with the internet…

  8. Matt

Good – I should certainly pronounce, impressed with your site. I had no trouble navigating through all tabs and related info ended up being truly easy to do to access. I recently found what I hoped for before you know it at all. Reasonably unusual. Is likely to appreciate it for those who add forums or anything, website theme . a tones way for your client to communicate. Nice task.

  9. miss bb

Great post- so many options that I am confused in which to choose I am looking for a simple lightbox (no flash) but I would like the option to add link to open a new page for each clicked image. what would be the best from these for such goal….?

  10. I’m looking for something similar to the way Google displays photos on Google Plus when you click on an album. All of the photos are spaced evenly and organized so that there isn’t any extra white space. It’s remarkable, but I haven’t been able to find anything even remotely close that i could tweek. Any body?

  11. Can any one tell me what is the name of the 48 CSS Decorative Gallery? I need to create those kind of picture for myself ??

  12. kyle

First of all I wanna thank you for this great article. My site is under construction and certainly i’ll use some of these products.

  13. Leće

wow, how many solutions for my next site!! thank you, thank you so much!!!!

  14. Some of these gallery designs like the tiltviewer are plain awesome. Even the polaroid gallery looks unique and different. thanks for sharing. How did you find these wonderful designs though?

  15. Cool – A couple of ones on here i hadn’t seen before like the SpaceGallery slider. Wondering the popular CUB3R and Nivo sliders weren’t included in the list :)

I myself created a very minimalistic image slider a while back and released it for free to the community. It too uses 3D to transition between images. All settings are tweakable via XML and since it’s built on Papervision and not the native 3D engine in Flash it even has Flash Player 9 support, just like CUB3R!

Anyway, you can read more and check out a demo of my free image slider here:

Would wish my own slider wasn’t Flash based, so it’d work on iOS devices, but I don’t think that kind of 3D is doable with JS/CSS3 at the moment – If i’m wrong, please do enlighten me.

  16. Charity Sciarra

Really one amazing list of galleries I have come across. Flash and lightbox have come a long away. I think lightbox in the very beginning had lots of lag but has been refined in recent years. I’m going to share this resource to my devlopers :) Another great gallery list is from Dreamlinestudio. All flash but some really amazing stuff.

  17. This a new and very simple one I ve made due to many problems I had with putting in the same page various widgets, slideshows that relied on famous javascript frameworks such as mootools or jquery..Conflicts..
This one does not use mootools or any other framework it is just plain ansi javascript and all it does for the moment is a slideshow with fade out/in effect.
If you are familiar with smoothgallery you wont have any problems.

  18. very much handy and greatly helpful collection. Thanks for getting all these at one place for a clear pick as per the need for developers like me. Thank you :)

  19. steve

  21. Ernest

    Great article!
I looked through most of these, but they seem that they’re already “set” galleries.
I’m looking for something that I can perhaps embed into my HTML layouts. I have tried jQuery image boxes as well Light box, which are OK, but I’m looking a different type of gallery, but one I can just embed into the already created page. Do you know of anything? Thanks!

  22. Jake Howell
