57+ Premium And Free Image Gallery, Slideshow And Lightbox Solutions

Posted in Coding, Freebies, JS & AJAX, Templates5 years ago • Written by 102 Comments

Actually at first I wanted simple image gallery solution for web design project, but when I started to search I changed my mind and thought how great would be to create article about all the best image gallery solutions available on the Internet. So here it is – this list is separated in 3 big categories like Ajax, JavaScript and Lightbox based galleries, CSS based galleries and FLASH based galleries, so You can easy switch to category You got interest in. I think here You’ll find gallery for every needs, should be enough to choose from!

This article has been updated on May 16,2012 and we just created new roundup of 30 jquery image and slider plugins, which have been released just on 2012! Everything is super fresh, enjoy!

I wanted also to add comment about free and premium files – while I was searching for a lot of free quality codes, I still found several commercial solutions, which blew my mind away, but since I wasn’t there to spend any money I just went further to search for more free image galleries. But yes, while I recommend you mostly to use those free slideshows, sometimes for good paid freelance jobs you have it’s worth spending little money to really leave impact to your client..and in the meantime you’re saving time!

Well, I guess what I am suggesting is to always look how much time takes for you to modify, install, setup free solution..and if it takes too much, definitely look into cheap codes, cheap quality tools, where definitely you can spare 5-15$ to save your time, here is on of the best marketplace I am talking about and using myself on desperate occasions – CodeCanyon! Just thinking, enjoy your free slideshows now – I know here you’ll find huge quality as well, just be aware how well supported, upgraded each solution is, because if you’ll get old buggy code, you won’t be happy with it! Ok, now let’s get to the actual article! -

    Heyy,

Does anybody know which wordpress photo plugin displays thumbnails and then each thumbnail links to a different page?

I want one like this as opposed to a flash based slideshow that is all on 1 page.

    Many thanks,

    Stephanie

All of the photos are spaced evenly and organized so that there isn’t any extra white space. It’s remarkable, but I haven’t been able to find anything even remotely close that i could tweek. Hi Timothy,

I have been using the Image Scroller for a couple of weeks now, and since it has the Colorbox script integrated with the Flash it really helped me put my images to the net easier. When I used the Flash multiple times in the same page it also doubled my overlays. I managed to fix this problem just by adding the embedding code for the Colorbox javascript file.

This a new and very simple one I ve made due to many problems I had with putting in the same page various widgets, slideshows that relied on famous javascript frameworks such as mootools or jquery..Conflicts..
This one does not use mootools or any other framework it is just plain ansi javascript and all it does for the moment is a slideshow with fade out/in effect.
If you are familiar with smoothgallery you wont have any problems.

    Great article!
I looked through most of these, but they seem that they’re already “set” galleries.
I’m looking for something that I can perhaps embed into my HTML layouts. I have tried jQuery image boxes as well Light box, which are OK, but I’m looking a different type of gallery, but one I can just embed into the already created page. Do you know of anything? Thanks!

Cool – A couple of ones on here i hadn’t seen before like the SpaceGallery slider. Wondering the popular CUB3R and Nivo sliders weren’t included in the list :)

I myself created a very minimalistic image slider a while back and released it for free to the community. It too uses 3D to transition between images. All settings are tweakable via XML and since it’s built on Papervision and not the native 3D engine in Flash it even has Flash Player 9 support, just like CUB3R!

Anyway, you can read more and check out a demo of my free image slider here: http://ahrengot.com/likes/free-flash-based-3d-image-slider/

Would wish my own slider wasn’t Flash based, so it’d work on iOS devices, but I don’t think that kind of 3D is doable with JS/CSS3 at the moment – If i’m wrong, please do enlighten me.

It has the standard feature set of these other lightboxes, but was built for users who want to be able to style the lightbox to fit the theme of their site. It was written from scratch to be heavily customizable without having to modify the core javascript file.

Really one amazing list of galleries I have come across. Flash and lightbox have come a long away. I think lightbox in the very beginning had lots of lag but has been refined in recent years. I’m going to share this resource to my devlopers :) Another great gallery list is from Dreamlinestudio. All flash but some really amazing stuff.

Thanks!

    Heyy,

Does anybody know which wordpress photo plugin displays thumbnails and then each thumbnail links to a different page?

I want one like this as opposed to a flash based slideshow that is all on 1 page.

    Many thanks,

    I wanted share my lightbox:
    ColorBox

It has the standard feature set of these other lightboxes, but was built for users who want to be able to style the lightbox to fit the theme of their site. It was written from scratch to be heavily customizable without having to modify the core javascript file.
