I personally don’t have a lot of experience with Wix, but it seems like a very neat way to create free flash websites. They have separated themselves from the rest, since most of the free site builders only let you create html pages. One of the most advanced solutions for people without any coding experience to build powerful and good looking site easily and fast.
Hey its Google and they are letting you create a free site….so do it. As usual, Google makes it extremely easy to build a free website with cool integration features like Google Docs, Google Calendar, and RSS.
Google Knol came out about 2 years ago and even though it has not gotten the same praise as Wikipedia, it is still a valuable resource that you should take advantage of. Free easy to create your own free knol and help position yourself as an industry leader.
Jimdo is a new free website builder that is very clean and easy to use. As you can see in the screen-shot you can create your own url and add text, photos, and custom design.
One of my favorite places to create a free webpage is Squidoo. Not only do these pages tend to rank well in the search engines, but you can monetize them by adding amazon affiliate products and links, share easily through Facebook and Tweetmeme buttons and much more.
Wetpaint is the place to go to create your own free wiki in a matter of minutes. Similar to the other website builders out there, however like a wiki anyone can add, edit, and remove content from the page.
Hubpages is very similar to Squidoo, in the fact that you can build free pages and they tend to rank very well in search engines. You can also make money by adding affiliate products, links and adsense in your hub. It has all of the cool features that you would need including adding images, videos, ratings and reviews, and the ability to comment.
For anyone in the restaurant industry, Let’s Eat is for you. Let’s Eat lets you create your own restaurant website where you can add information about your restaurant, menu, hours, location, and more.

I am kind of wondering why webstarttoday name is not in this list. There are so many beautiful designs on http://www.webstarttoday.com and the site builder is very user friendly. it is free and costs you just $1 for the hosting for an year. I am pretty sure you will love the designs.

I’ve made several websites over the last year and have had the opportunity to use a few different website builder services. I’ve found that the ones that are easiest to use also have the most limitations. So be sure that the website you need to build warrants using an easy website builder before you begin.

Please, I need to know which web host I can use that allows me to build sites that look like those on wix and moonfruit. I don’t now jack about web building and I wasn’t impressed by the fonts and gloss on weebly.com; at the same time, I don’t want a site that takes ages to load like wix and I want a WYSIWYG builder that’s sleek.
thanks.

I did a website on Wix and found it very slow to load. However, everything else impressed me. One of the best free sites which allows you to get really creative without having html knowledge.
edicy is another site I am currently looking at and ezweb. I don’t like sites that only allow you to create within columns lie weebly and jimdo. I like to be able to move content anywhere on the page, rather then being restricted to columns.
Great review site, best on the net. Thank you so much for you time.

Hey, Mark. Truly awesome post!! This is the most thorough list of mobile platforms I’ve found yet. Must have taken forever to pull together in a coherent list like this. Well done. :-)
However — if I may be so bold, allow me to toss my hat into the ring here and offer a mobile builder/CMS which I think rises above the rest (that I’ve tried anyway). It’s much more easy-to-use and “web 2.0″ than all the other big ones I’ve found. Plus for the money I can’t find one better as… it’s FREE! :-)
The tool is called Qfuse (www.qfuse.com) – and it’s a mobile website builder/CMS AND also a QR Code Generator which links to the mobile website you create. Obviously what makes a platform “great” is all about experience, flexibility of the UI, and personal opinion of course…but that’s my $0.02.
The platform also serves to provide analytics around number of times the site is viewed and the QR code scanned. So a pretty cool service overall — especially since, again, it’s FREE. They also have a pretty cool cartoon video on the homepage showing how the site works. I would be very interested in your opinion/review when/if you have time.

I’m a big fan of webs.com because you can knock yourself out with a custom Dreamweaver site and upload the whole thing without compromising using a template. The best thing is the tiny button required to make the site free! Unobtrusive and very flexible.

you mentioned feedback on wix. I am a wix user and have absolutely loved it. I am a teacher and I built a great website for my classes that enables me to share info, provide documents, presentations, etc., easily communicate with students and parents. plus the site looks great! As I have become more technologically savvy I have encountered some limitations, ones that are bypassed by upgrading for a fee, but the limitations include embedding html, analytics, widgets and gadgets. things that I didn’t even know existed when I first built the site.
overall I recommend wix to others when they are looking for a simple way to build a great looking site!
