Google Knol
Google Knol came out about 2 years ago and even though it has not gotten the same praise as Wikipedia, it is still a valuable resource that you should take advantage of. Free easy to create your own free knol and help position yourself as an industry leader.
Jimdo
Jimdo is a new free website builder that is very clean and easy to use. As you can see in the screen-shot you can create your own url and add text, photos, and custom design.
AngelFire

Squidoo
One of my favorite places to create a free webpage is Squidoo. Not only do these pages tend to rank well in the search engines, but you can monetize them by adding amazon affiliate products and links, share easily through Facebook and Tweetmeme buttons and much more.
Yola
Tripod
Wetpaint
Wetpaint is the place to go to create your own free wiki in a matter of minutes. Similar to the other website builders out there, however like a wiki anyone can add, edit, and remove content from the page.
WikiSpaces
Blogsome
Weebly
Wix
I personally don’t have a lot of experience with Wix, but it seems like a very neat way to create free flash websites. They have separated themselves from the rest, since most of the free site builders only let you create html pages. Would love to hear from anyone that has used Wix.
Hubpages
Hubpages is very similar to Squidoo, in the fact that you can build free pages and they tend to rank very well in search engines. You can also make money by adding affiliate products, links and adsense in your hub. It has all of the cool features that you would need including adding images, videos, ratings and reviews, and the ability to comment.
Piczo
Webnode
Moonfruit
Let’s Eat
For anyone in the restaurant industry, Let’s Eat is for you. Let’s Eat lets you create your own restaurant website where you can add information about your restaurant, menu, hours, location, and more.

you mentioned feedback on wix. I am a wix user and have absolutely loved it. I am a teacher and I built a great website for my classes that enables me to share info, provide documents, presentations, etc., easily communicate with students and parents. plus the site looks great! As I have become more technologically savvy I have encountered some limitations, ones that are bypassed by upgrading for a fee, but the limitations include embedding html, analytics, widgets and gadgets. things that I didn’t even know existed when I first built the site.
overall I recommend wix to others when they are looking for a simple way to build a great looking site!
Thanks for sharing this!! I am very much interesting in this topic.. Keep on elaborating much more on it in future posts.!

Very comprehensive list. I wouldn’t consider some of these websites though. HubPages, Squidoo, Knol.. these are just single content pages with third party framework.
Surprised to see Angelfire, wonder what they’ve changed since 1997 :D

Great post, thanks!
I am focusing on very small, hyper-local businesses that are still weary of the internet, or are just starting to get their feet wet. I’ll check these out, some look like they would be a great to recommend as a next step.

Few different websites I maintain, Easiest by far is the Wix one, which you stated you didn’t have alot of experience with. Its a well done flash builder site. It helps users create stunning pages with very VERY little knowledge. My aunt currently adds content to the small site I made for her using it. They even have options to upgrade accounts, which is more than most need, to include shopping carts fully supported on site or buy/register domains. The only problems I’ve seen with Wix is occasionally the massive amount of flash can slow down loading for the “editor”. Fully intergrated paypal, google maps, contact content make it a nice place for people just getting started on the web. Though it is a “flash site” that is created so it wont show up well in current search engine content. Search engines still have issues with crawling and ranking flash sites.
How useful is this?
Awesome, well done on the post.
Wish I’d known about a few of the above before embarking on some of the sites I have set up
Well done on the collation and presentation. ‘Hats off’ in a salute!
Have a great day

Great article.
If I may add… our tool is free for any designer to build websites for their clients. It’s a professional tool — not based on templates — and no programming is involved. The client is the one who pays a very reasonable monthly fee for the hosting and the ability to manage all the content. The design can be easily modified at any time.
If anyone is interested in checking us out and getting a free demo, please go to http://www.yourwebdepartment.com
We already have several designers and studios on board, not just here in Canada but around the world, creating hundreds of sites for their clients.
Thanks!
Best compilation so far. Thanks a lot for listing doTemplate among this cool tools.
Great collection and these resources are so helpful that any one can build a website over here.
Wow, what a list! Really glad that Jimdo made it on there :-)
The feature we just launched last week that might be of interest is the online store. It’s totally easy (just as easy as the rest of Jimdo) to add items to a store and start selling stuff on your website.
If you have any feedback, Mark, or anyone else, we’re always happy to hear on ways we can improve.

A really great selection. Very useful info. I’m actually using wix an pretty happy with that so far. Though sometimes some more flexibility in terms of being able to access the code for more customization won’t hurt.
Thanks, Mark, for mentioning Moogo in the list! We are constantly developing the service by adding new features and designs, we really appreciate all our users who have made awesome looking websites.
Among the newest features everyone will be soon able to make a mobile site with Moogo. We believe it is really going to be great addition to our already existing features. We will announce it on our homepage (http://moogo.com).
All the best,
Helena @Moogo
