Excellent stuff Cosmin, especially for any newbies looking in.

I’d say that all of what you say is important but never ever do the keyword seo thing at the expense of the visitor experience.

As has been alluded to by other posters on here you need to get the balance right between keyword optimization with the usual parameters of suitable keyword phrases, anchor text, keyword density, LSI etc etc and the natural feel of the article/post/blog/site page that you are writing.

Unique and relevant content, written in a natural way is as important as good seo keyword use.

Take a look at http://www.keyword-selectortool.com for loads of tips. Yep it’s my site and I do sell things on there but there are lots of articles you can look at relating to this stuff.

Nice Article, and some very useful tools. Here is another tool for your consideration

    http://www.lonij.net/wordstorm/

It is called WordStorm. Based on a word that you choose, WordStorm generates a map of related concepts (not just synonyms, like a thesaurus). You can use it to brainstorm for keyword ideas. Let me know what you think.

I really like going a bit old school and just do a bit of simple data mining from forums that I like to frequent.

When you’re on forums, you have people asking real questions in speech that they would normally use to search. You can find topics to write about as well as keywords.

Thank you for this information! I have already published many articles online, but even though they are all very well written and informative, many of them are despised, because they don´t have the right keywords in the title, or these keywords don´t make a good combination. I´m really glad I discovered your blog!

I find myself disagreeing with the premise of this post.

I’m in the camp of “forget SEO, just write – it’ll be more personal that way.”

Articles like http://www.fuelyourblogging.com/i-threw-seo-to-the-wind/ and others recently have really solidified this in my mind that when I do start my blog, I won’t worry about keywords. traffic will come as a result of great content and through word of mouth & social media referrals. Don’t you agree?

Only people that don’t know much about your topic would be searching Google for “best logo designer in ________” and while I’d love to get more business, this doesn’t really help the cause. I’d rather have the people who know my field and are experts in it respect and recommend the site to someone they come across based on what they’ve read.

    Just my opinion…

    1. Kristi

I don’t think it hurts to write your article, then look at top keywords to see if you can get some good searchable terms to fit your article. If it’s a good article, wouldn’t you want to do a little extra to help it get better rankings in search results?
