Nice list. Although I think things like OpenOffice.org and GIMP are best installed right on your computer. Almost any computer you use is going to have some sort of office app on it already. Same with VLC and ImageBurn Portable.

Things like ClamWin, Recuva and other computer maintenance utilities are definitely a must!

If I can add to the list, I would add ThunderBird. It’s a great email client which may help you manage multiple accounts at once.

ImgBurn is definitely useful to have on a USB drive, you never know when you’ll need to burn an ISO image. Plus, Firefox is nice at work

Portable apps provide great flexibility and security for working people. Many times for using files we need to install whole program and it become inconvenient. Portable applications are proving great nowadays. They are flexible and do not require any installation. Thanks for this great article. I have large collection of this software.

This is a great resource list. I have bookmarked it in firefox.

I am commenting to ask what is the name of the plugin you use for your “about author” blurb under your related posts? I have done a similar thing on my blog but I did it by editing my single.php file. Please email me with the plugin name if you can. If not I’ll be back to check out more of your articles. Thanks
