One of the most important parts of the website is the header. This is what the visitor will see first, this will need to be appealing to the eye while functional to let the visitor find the navigation easily.

Posted 831 days ago 25I think Ectomachine is the only one on this list that wouldn’t make me shut down my browser if I loaded it up. Would not even consider viewing any of those sites or hiring them for that matter.
Don’t try to bamboozle me with your fancy graphics on your main site, keep that for the portfolio.

Posted 835 days ago 23Very nice Designs, i wish i can make those great Graphics.

Posted 835 days ago 21Awesome headers! Thanks for this list
Alice
Posted 835 days ago 20Although many of the graphics are skillfully designed, many fail in execution because they don’t communicate the correct message. Graphics should support and be a part of the message. To put it bluntly; many of the graphics above are pointless and unnecessary. All style, no substance.

Posted 835 days ago 22i completely agree. too busy. crazy graphics for graphics sake isn’t good web imo.
while they are pretty to look at, i struggle with where to start.

Posted 834 days ago 24While I find your criticism to be valid in some cases, it must also be acknowledged that sometimes style is the message.

Posted 835 days ago 19header in the first place must correspond to the topics the site, and only then to be beautiful or cool!

Posted 835 days ago 18WOW.. great Collection! Fantastic. I love so beautiful Header Designs. Very inspiring :)

Posted 836 days ago 16The bad thing about most of these is that the headers take up at least half the screen on a 1280×800 resolution screen. That is way too large for a header. Take, for example, the Made in Space site. I have absolutely no idea what this site is for or what this person does when I come here. Bigger is not better in web design.

Posted 836 days ago 15These are fine but I don’t see any that are from the real world… That being any sort of site that would be designed for a paying client. They are all in the genre of designer portfolios.

Posted 836 days ago 17Well most paying clients like simple and professional look, some of the sites are for real life paying clients, like Tennessee Vacations. Its run by the state of Tennessee and they there site might be one of the most distracting ones from the lists.

Posted 836 days ago 12Some of the websites have beautiful and creative headers! My favorite is Octwelve because the cartoon drawing is too cute.

Posted 836 days ago 11Very cool & creative designs, but I think most of these are too distracting for a website header.

Posted 836 days ago 8Very arty and most nifty looking, for sure, but if I didn’t happen to be in the mood to examine nice and nifty-looking web sites, I’d tend to shut most of these pages almost immediately because they are way too busy and distracting. Tutcandy isn’t too bad, I guess. What’s wrong with a more Zen approach? Good lord, what would Howard Roark think? (!)

Posted 818 days ago 28Probably not a lot since he’s a fictional character.

Posted 836 days ago 7some great examples there. Always loved tutcandy, as well as N-Design Studio, as Nick La seems to be the champion of great header designs.
