I will add http://www.agreedo.com . Unlike all others here on this great list it really let people be more efficient when it comes to meetings of any type. Whether they meet live or online agreedo.com let people prepare for the meeting, run the meeting and followup the results. I think they are still beta. It’s really cool stuff!

A very useful article. I think it can be very helpful for those who are looking for a PM tool.
We’ve been using Wrike for a few months already. Email integration is awesome! A lot of time is saved on typing emails. Wrike is easy to adopt, that’s a big advantage when you need to invite external collaborators.
One thing that I miss is an iPhone app, but they told they’d be releasing it this year.

I’ve used Basecamp and I am very satisfied! Basecamp no longer supports Internet Explorer 6. They won’t even let you use the site if you are on it. But lots of other people are moving the same way.

For me, the best project management tool is InTask (www.intaskrnd.com) – fast, intuitive, lots of features, outlook synchronization, calendar view, import/export from excel, document management and state of the art reports editor. Most important – it’s free!!
my second best is MS Project – lots of options, fairly simple and non-web based which is a big advantage in my opinion

To collaborate with my partners and share confidential infromation I use Sironta ( http://www.sironta.com ).

It’s P2P, so confidential docs are only on my PC, not on an external server. It has Open Office embedded so you can work on the documents even if you are offline and synchronize with your partners once you reach the net.

It’s the first software I have seen where I can share, edit or create files of any type and any size, without limitations, restrictions or information leakage.

hello, Thank you so much for this article. I really appreciate your assistance and I would like to inform you that we are also maintaining one business consultant which provides blogs too. That site is “http://www.mavenlink.com/” . I hope it will be referred…

I agree Mavenlink is new, but they have some serious potential.

I don’t think the tools are listed in order of importance.

This is a really great post, and has some awesome insights. At ProjectSpaces (www.projectspaces.com), we believe strongly in fighting against the con you list — “These project management apps are here to save you time, but they can also be very time-consuming and not intuitive.” We have strived for simplicity over some of the flashy features of the other tools, while making sure to still include everything you need. Check us out and sign up for a free trial today. We’d love to hear from you.

The guys over at templatic have modded the P2 wordpress theme to work as a basic twitter like wordpress based collaboration tool. We use it at Outpost all the time for client projects. Its good because it eliminates all the clutter. It looks a lot like Teambox but bare bones.

    And its free!
