Free Graphic Design Software Reviews And An Amazing Showcase

Posted in: TipsToolsWeb DesignWritten by: Costin GămanNovember 13th, 2011

Needless to say, the dominance of proprietary graphics software can make this particular domain incredibly prohibitive for those who are just starting and need much more than just a trial period to learn their way around. This is where free software takes the spotlight. While it aims to provide functions similar to those of its more expensive counterparts, it shouldn't be regarded as a complete replacement. Though users constantly bicker about which is better, the answer couldn't be more obvious: it all depends on what you use it for.

Graffiti art, and underground street culture in general, has long been seen as provocative and uncompromising. Surrealism and How it is Used Today

Posted in: InspirationWeb DesignWritten by: Rachel ArandillaMay 4th, 2011

Surrealism is a cultural and art movement that started in the 1920s. It encompasses all forms, such as art, sculpture, music, literature, film and philosophy. Surrealism is a sandbox of the human subconscious mind. Artists and writers of the movement believe Surrealism to be a revolutionary philosophical movement first, using visual works merely as an artifact. Since we are graphic and web designers ourselves, let us discuss surrealism in its visual form. Surrealism artworks often feature the element of surprise with random objects and unpredictable juxtapositions. It developed out of Dadaism during the WWI, centered around Paris, France and quickly spread worldwide from the 1920s onward.

An artist needs no permission to display his art and his creativity has no boundaries. Street art is a perfect illustration of this aspect in artists. Apart from the reasons that gave birth to street art, the brilliance, endowment and ingenuity of graffiti artists is undeniable. Is the Art of Photography Dying Due to Digitalization?

Photography has been my hobby ever since I got a hold of my very first camera, a Kodak C310. I think that was the start of the exponential advancement in the technology of digital cameras. After that, I received a Canon DIGITAL IXUS 80 IS. Since then I have taken a lot of photographs, and my dream was to have a DSLR of my own. Now I have a DSLR and it was like a dream come true when I took my first shot with it. During those old times, I did not think of myself as a pro. Even until now, I am not taking photographs thinking that I'm a pro with my DSLR hanging around my neck. I just take photos because I love photography.

The Battle Between Psychedelic & Minimalist Design: Which Side Are You On?

Posted in: TipsWeb DesignWritten by: Rachel ArandillaFebruary 4th, 2011

A minimalist would say Less is more, but on the other side of the spectrum, an advertiser would argue: The bigger, the bolder, the better! Who would you believe, and which is really better--all, or nothing? Psychedelic and Minimalist art are very different aesthetically, but equally brilliant. Both can be effective in certain instances, and both can flop. Psychedelic art is about boldness and richness. Minimalist art...just the opposite --stripping a design to its bare essentials.

Posted in: InterviewsWeb DesignWritten by: Rean John UeharaJanuary 5th, 2011

Glorifying the use of computers and cool fonts from blog to blog seem to not end and it probably never will. One must put a stop to this insanity by looking back from where it all came from, a more traditional art. Handwriting or penmanship, if you will. The art of handwriting is dying, I only have one friend who has a very artistic handwriting and when people do see her write they get mesmerized. That is one hint that it is a dying art: when people around see it like something straight from a fantasy film.
