A Quick Introduction to Ruby on Rails

Posted in: TipsWeb DesignWritten by: Salman SiddiquiFebruary 2nd, 2012

Time to Ruby dooby do! It can take a lot of time, and be quite boring, to learn a new programming language. A .Net developer will jump up and say why should I even learn it? I am a professional .Net developer and my day job doesn't give me time (and scope) to learn a new programming language. But, it isn't like that. You learn a lot with new programming languages especially when they are a refined version of other optimized ones. Ruby is that sort of language. I agree that the transition from being a noob developer (in a particular programming language) to a pro is arduous but you will appreciate the experience. As of now all that I can do is let you guys know that if you stick around with Ruby then you won't be at a loss. Just be positive. Note: Consider this article to be a very basic discussion on Ruby (the programming language) and Rails (an application framework). My basic goal is to introduce you to Ruby and give you that initial push which is required when learning a programming language.

CSS Tools for Designers and Developers

Posted in: ToolsWeb DesignWritten by: Christian VasileJanuary 20th, 2012

CSS tools are important for web designers and developers because they help them by simplifying the jobs they have to do. Considering time is money and such generators spare time, it is easy to understand why many web developers are excited about these tools. The only problem is that some of them are not well-known, therefore I made a showcase for you with CSS tools and generators which developers and designers can use to create functional and optimized websites faster. Because the tools will be categorized, you will find at the end of each category a list with other applications that do the same as the ones reviewed, therefore there is no need to review them too.

Web Service Review: CSS Lint – Helping You Code Better

Posted in: ToolsWeb DesignWritten by: Christian VasileJanuary 14th, 2012

Coding is something that takes time to learn and novice developers might not use the best practices when converting web interfaces from a Photoshop file into a fully functional web site. It would be really good to have access to an experience programmer, but not everybody can afford to hire one or knows someone that is with spare time. So you might ask yourself what to do to improve the code before delivering a web page. Well, lucky you, there is a tool out there which I will review for you today. The tool is called CSS Lint, it is totally free and I definitely recommend trying it and see what you can get out of it. The difference between a good and a great programmer is all in the small details CSS Lint can fix for you - or, at least, can tell you to fix them and why.

Customize WordPress With Four Easy-To-Add Scripts

Posted in: WordPressWritten by: Rochester OliveiraDecember 19th, 2011

Probably at some point you wanted to customize things in WordPress instead of using the "default" for every page. Like a pretty image gallery in a few posts, a syntax highlighter for your tutorial category or a demo page for your tutorials. Well all those things break the standard, so people will see it as "impossible" to change. Should you put the following scripts on every page? No. That would be a waste of resources, since you'll load a lot of useful things many times. Should you put them directly in your content (dear lord, please, don't ever do this)? This would be really hard to maintain, since every simple change would be a big waste of time because you would have to make those changes post by post. Let's see a couple of ways to get this easily working.
