Surely, most healthy people are happy with their lives and vice versa. Being unhappy for more than the normal amount of time is life-wrecking. Some day you just have to get up and stir yourself to life again and take on the challenges that awaits you no matter how grave the thing you must rise up from. Then there are people who are neither happy nor sad, they simply don’t care about things. What will you expect from a designer who is oblivious of things, who is apathetic? No client would want another Van Gogh (I love Van Gogh, seriously). Although in the past most creative geniuses are used to locking up in the attic or in their basement alone for months at a time to create artworks that are now sold for thousands of dollars, what the world needs today are artists who can communicate well with people and can express emotions no matter how macabre or jolly the design should be.

Success = Happy + Healthy

If you live a healthy and happy life then chances are you will do well in most of the things you do, no matter what the outcome is. However, success does not always entail being victorious in every thing you do but means how able are you to recuperate and continue.

Just look at the very successful people in their own trade today, they are happy with their lives and are living a healthy lifestyle which is reflected in their works. Isn’t that noble?

First you must asses yourself if you are lacking either or both.

How to be Healthy and Happy (if you’re not)

Designers should always have fresh ideas, as such it is important to have a fresh experience as soon as time permits. Creation is a continuous process, this applies to movies and book releases too. It wouldn’t hurt to treat yourself to the movies once a month or buy and read a book that interests you, aside from fulfilling your little “cravings” you are automatically making your mind open to new stimuli. Hit the gym a couple of times a week, walk your dog, go swimming, destroy a friend’s house; just be happy and your health will follow.

Easier said than done but there’s a fun way to combat procrastination and ill-will by creating a list of things you want to do. “I want to drink a gallon of vodka in 10 minutes” ? Let’s set some ground rules for you to follow to avoid gulping a gallon. Steps first.

Keep a List

Steps:

1. Write things that you really want to do –  no restrictions.
2. Write things you think are fun to do (even if you really don’t want to).
3. Be realistic.
4. Consider various things like the food you wish to eat, someone you’d like to reconnect with, a place where you want to go, et cetera.
5. No editing, yet.

Filtering:

1. Cross out the things that will put your health at risk.
2. Remove things that might hurt others.
3. Do not cheat by removing the things that will tire you out.
4. Remove all work-related items. The goal is to have fun!

Execution:

1. Set a specific date when you should have accomplished all the items.
2. Execute them little by little.
3. Enjoy.

How to stay Healthy and Happy (if you are already)

The trick is to maintain your daily routine, less risky and is proven to work. But as everything wears and tears, so does your routine’s effect on you. The things that you are currently doing to stay healthy and happy should evolve with you as you mature. Consider it like eating your favorite pasta every day for a month. The excitement of finally eating it after a day’s hard work wears off slowly and the taste will be less delicious than what it used to be, correct? This is the reason why the experienced, and happy people, are always saying to do new things whenever possible.

Once in a while do things that are out of your comfort zone. Are you so used to designing in front of your computer that doing your art in another medium would be a waste of time? Try doodling on the sand, simple things such as this will hopefully spark that creative genius inside you.

Final Words

Exercise and eat foods that will boost your health. Your mind is more active and is more flexible when the body it is in is strong and happy! Try smiling now, come on! Did you just smile? It’s fine smiling while you are alone but not always. *laughs*

When people search for inspiration they wander around and look for that something that gives impact. Something mind-blowing and takes your breath away. They take that inspiration with them and from that they try to unfold their own constructiveness. That they may come up to something unique. But sometimes holding on too much from that inspiration that the product is another mere mimic of what was done.

Individuality, is more than being creative in a way. It’s taking your art up another level and making your piece stand out among others. It is something very deep and personal that you can make your very own style which will distinct you from the rest.

In this article, I’m hoping to make a point that not everything can be found on the internet. You need to step back once in a while, to see the bigger picture. There are plenty of sources for inspiration and individuality. Think out of the box and explore horizons.

To Begin With

Before anything else, compare and question yourself -“what are the similarities”. By identifying what went wrong in the picture that makes it too similar and being comfortable with it, makes you accept that something needs to be changed and move on. Next, is to step out of the circle. Turn off your TV, computer, ipad, cellphones, anything that hinders you from thinking naturally on your own effort. Studies show that human beings only use %10 of the brain. So, you need your brain to keep working and not stay in the corner to rust. This time, go back the basics with a clean sheet of paper and good pencil. It doesn’t matter if you can’t draw, everyone’s an artist in their own way. What’s important is your own interpretation.

Take your precious time

“Time is gold” – that’s right. And I also like to think that in time, you can make gold. Time makes everything and everyone wiser, better, and stronger. Billionaires didn’t earn their fortune in a snap, they worked hard and long. No masterpiece was ever made in a rush. Some even took a lifetime to realize perfection. But if you’re under time pressure, then it is best to spend time very wisely. It is always better, if not best to take as much time and effort to something that needs to be achieved. Getting things in the fastest or easiest ways don’t always work nor last.

Avant-Garde Artists

Get inspired by the best of  the best. The artists who have lived the highest of all standards and the masters of the art. Be influenced to be original and not simply to imitate. Each and everyone of us is unique from head to toe. You can be as originative as you can be, never give up.

1. Leonardo da Vinci

The ever famous Leonardo da Vinci and his controversial Masterpiece “The Monalisa” (shown below). Also famous for his other works of art “The Last Supper”  and “Vitruvian Man” to name some.

For modern form of arts like digital arts, originality is the most critical quality an artist should have. Here are some of the many artists to look up to.

1. Mark Verhaagen

This colorful vector-based illustrations with cool fictional creatures are the byproduct of this artist’s imagination. His unique taste for subjects are very catchy.

His impressive intensity for detail makes his pieces stand out like telling a story. And gives his design such radiance that they almost look real.

Target Your Audience

Before you start creating the logo guidelines, first you will need to understand who will be using the guidelines are they your client or will they be the employer of your client, what will they achieve from using them, how and/or where they can access the guidelines (this can either be a digital file like PDF or a printed logo guidelines book), and the last one is that why the logo guidelines it self being produced.

Gather The Essential Information

Once you set up the target or knowing the reason why the guidelines is needed, you can start gathering the essential information to help your target see the concept through the logo you designed. You have to keep in mind that the following logo guidelines is made to help communicate your idea or concept to your brand’s audience.

In designing the logo guidelines, it’s best to match the look and feel of the brand itself and apply it on the guidelines. However, sometimes it is also best to keep it look simple and neat.

While designing on the logo guidelines book or paper sheet, there are few things that you should consider to do to achieve a better understanding for your audience, such as:

• Create section dividers between one subject to the other. For example, you will have the introduction first before the color palette section. You should separate these two sections using lines, rectangle blocks, or even start on new page for each different section.
• Write a comprehensible introduction or overview page to describe why the guidelines have been produced and how adhering to them will strengthen their brand.
• Remember that this is the guideline, therefore try to engage the user. Keep the explanation short and simple to understand.
• Be aware of the typographic hierarchy. Always differentiate the headline/headings with the introduction copy, body copy, or other typography content.
• Provide your logo guidelines target with examples of how the logo should, i.e the minimum size of the logo for print or for the website favicon.
• Always advice them about the mishandle logo, you could also explain it by including “the Do’s and the Don’t's” or “What To Avoid” section accompanied by the samples of common errors.

Distributing The Logo Guidelines

When distributing the logo guidelines, you can either create an interactive PDF or have it printed. This depends on whichever your client or target require them. However, you should always maintain the master file in Adobe Illustrator as it is easier to keep the print quality by using vector based program rather than Adobe Photoshop. As for distributing digitally,create these in the Master InDesign File and not within Acrobat, to save having to repeat the process with each revision.

But of course the texts, search engines and web contents are the most essential parts to consider for web designing. The key is typography control. It does require complex photo manipulation, and because resizing the image based on the browser size is not that easy, using exceptional CSS or, in some cases, Flash to get everything looking at their best.

A collage photo effect like this is quirky. You need to compose the layout with great color matching and positioning so that it wont look messy and over crowded.

This one is really striking. The angle of the photo background is remarkable & gave the layout a good view.

This is a great example of adding flash to the background. It is very customized and unique.

Another one of those good flash backgrounds. This one however, is a very edgy serious aura.

I like this one because the photo background tells a story which makes it interesting. Put together with great color scheme and positioning of templates it looks really good.

30. Mellow Mushroom

I always save the best for last. For me, this is what I found very impressive so far. It’s cutting edge flash effects and the background photo compliments each other. Worked even better because of the color scheme.

As you can see from the following examples, website designs with large photo backgrounds are very appealing to the viewers’ eyes. It makes it unique and interesting. Especially the ones with additional flash effects. A great composition of photography, flash, and exceptional CSS skills will get you a very unique layout that will surely make your website standout.

I know most of us listen to music while working, but that’s not the only point I want to make in this article. You see, we need to get things done the way it should be. To do that, is by setting mood, vibe, groove, passion and energy – which music can contribute a lot.

Ways of using music effectively, as an inspiration to your design:

• Pick the right kind of music genre

Get the music that will set you in the right mood. You wouldn’t be playing melodramatic music when working on a hiphop design right? It’s important to set the music into the theme. Keep in mind that, the music will reflect on the result of your design.

After you conceptualize and gather more ideas for your visual design, a great type of music would accompany you feel that concept.

For example :

• Happy theme – Up beat music ( trance, disco, house)
• Futuristic theme – Electronic ( electronica, progressive)
• Calm theme – Relaxing music (acoustic, instrumentals)

And so on…

It has been proven for many years and is a fact, that music can stimulate creativity. The right music will get your blood pumping and your brain working.

• Get moving into the rhythm

What I mean is move according to the rhythm. Don’t just bop your head and tap your feet, do something related to what you are basically doing. Move your hand stroke to the rhythm of the music. Before you know it, you’ve finished your design. Time flies fast when your working. Even more if you’re enjoying music while working.

• Faster music means more energy – will make you create vivid, sturdy, smooth designs.
• Slower, idyllic music could make you create cautious, embellish, slick designs.

You may have noticed when you dance to music – the faster the tempo, the energetic the moves or steps you make.

Just like in designing, upbeat music makes you create bold designs and downbeat music creates detailed, sophisticated designs.

• Keep your energy up

The thing is, listening to a single genre can get boring when it’s played too much. The technique is to get as much music as possible and shuffle with some cool, slow jams. You wont have to listen to the same arrangement of the tracks the whole time you’re working. You can try mixing songs from different genres.

For example, if you are working on a sunny, vibrant visual design. You can stuff your happy playlist with songs from Bonnie Bailey, Bob Marley, Katy Perry, Diana King – Mix house music with some RnB, pop & reggae (or any song that makes you feel alive).

First, I would like to tell you on what is a line art, a line art is an image that consist of straight and curved lines that is place against a background to represent objects. These line arts are usually placed on a plain background to better see the image. The image below made by Gustave Doré depicts the tales of Baron von Münchhausen in line art.

There are two kinds of line art logos. The first one is the open design wherein logos in this kind do not form an enclosed shape. The second one is the continuous design. Logos in this kind have lines that are continuous and form an enclosed shape. Before, designers only use black and white for line art logos. However, you can now also create using different colors. In this article, I have showcased the most creative line art logos for you to get inspired. I also put some comments and suggestions on each to help you out if you will be doing your own line art logo.

This logo is for a photography business named, The Sweetest Days. The design is so feminine, simple but elegant.

2. Pilgrim

This Pilgrim logo is used for a travel agency. I love how the designer of this logo creatively use those curve lines to form a pilgrim.

This great work of logo is for Lovelë, a fun brand good for any business to do with care for animals (namely elephants) love or dating, children or a charitable organization. I see how nicely the lines are used here, how the designer used one line to form two elephants with trunks that form a heart shape. The elephant here symbolizes the eastern symbol of strength and national symbol in Thailand.

13. Music Junkie

In my opinion, if the background was in a dark color other than brown, maybe a white or dark blue one, it would look better. Nonetheless, the concept is very brilliant.

14. Get Wired

Get wired is a coffee and an internet shop combined in one store. This logo has great concept and good choice of colors and fonts, as well.

The logo is for a religious ministry. I find the logo very good. The orange cross may represent God and the line that formed a man represents the people. It’s like the logo is saying we should emerge with God’s ministry.

• Make sure to use plain background so that the logo itself will stand out.
• If your logo has a dark color, use a light one for the background. For example, if the logo is in a white color, you may put your background into black. Or vice versa.
• Use an icon or an object that will represent your company. This directly describes your line of business. For instance, if it is a bakeshop, you might as well create a line art logo with loaf bread on it.
• Make it appropriate, direct and simple as you can. Just let that creativity flow in you.
