Gradient mesh tool in Illustrator is the most powerful one, learn how to use it correctly and understand what can be done with it. I found many beautiful tutorials and ordered them from instructional to intermediate tutorials to lead you easier through learning process. I think you should get great starting point here and even if you’re experienced designer, you should find some new tips here definitely.

    I’m talking personally. I just don’t like to much the Photoshop tuts, with the gradient sunset, cause I see them like is just “make a gradient, and that’s all” they don’t make a great use for the gradient tools we can use, instead, the others you have choose are excellent, because they use different approaches an options for the gradient tool, like the coffee cup in Photoshop, or the abstract background in illustrator.
    As i told you, personal opinions of the tutorials, not of the list.
